If you suspect any std then you need prompt attention because untreated infection does cause more damage. The worse case is to develop an abscess in the pelvic organs which requires hospitalization.

How long?: The problem with chlamydia infection is that many women who have antibodies that suggest a prior chlamydia infection are not aware that they had an infection at some time in the past. In fact the majority of women we see with tubal damage and serologic [blood] signs of infection have no previous history, so it is difficult to determine when they had the first infection.
