Need more info: Tell us for how long have you had sciatica? Was it brought out due to trauma or lifting weight? Has there been any imaging studies of the spine(X-Ray or MRI) done so far? Are you taking any pain medicine and how much does it help? Once we know all of the above you can advice you if you can be treated with pain medicine and PT or you may need consultation from a surgeon if there is a disc prolapse.

There are many, many reasons for sciatic pains and your question can not be simply answered. Often sciatic pain is not serious and will resolve quickly on its own. If it is severe, however, or if it persists or is associated with other symptoms other than just the sciatic pain, then you should be evaluated by an appropriately trained provider.
