Sciatica not muscle: Sciatica 90% of the time involves inflammation or compression of a nerve from low back/lumbar spine. The sciatic nerve is in the buttocks and travels down the back of the leg. A muscle strain very rarely causes sciatic nerve problems. Oral or injectable steroids are often the best options to provide more rapid relief.
