A member asked:

Mys son was diagnosed with asthma but now suffers from bad tonsillitis. is it safe for him to have them removed at this age? if not, is there a remedy

A doctor has provided 1 answer

What age ?: Your question refers to his age but you don't cite what it is. Tonsils are rarely removed in modern medicine although this was once common. Five episodes of strep tonsillitis/yr or sleep apnea are the common qualifier. Most health plans don't cover random tonsil removal. Well controlled asthma does not disqualify a patient for any common procedure. Dangerous to remove them during active tonsilitis
