Very unlikely but...: Rabies virus lives in saliva. It doesn't survive long outside a mammal's body but might survive a couple hours, esp. if away from sunlight, but UV radiation kills it. It's generally transmitted via bite but could theoretically enter a dog's body through the mucous membranes of the mouth. However, the odds of this seem small and if your dog has been vaccinated for rabies infection is very unlikely.
