Depends: SSRI's are equal in efficacy. They differ in frequency of side effects. For any given person, one doesn't know which one works or will have a particular side effect. Weight gain and sexual dysfunction are common, but but hardly universal. Side effects stop when the medicine is stopped. If someone has bipolar disorder, a mood stabilizer is necessary before an SSRI.
