Having gallbladder removed. ultrasound poz with stones, hida 11% , other tests normal. i have heard in the past that they use a catheter. do they still do this?? if so, why?

By catheter you mean: If you mean a urinary catheter they are often used during surgery to keep the bladder empty. Knowing your fluid out helps them decide how much IV fluid to put in to maintain fluid balance. These catheters are usually removed before you wake up. For GB surgery they often leave a drainage catheter for a day or two to prevent a buildup of fluid at the surgical site. It exits your right abdominal wall
