Avoid abusable drugs: Pre-employment drug testing is done to find out if a potential new hire is using abusable drugs like heroin, meth, cocaine, marijuana, etc... because using such drugs can cause bad events on the job... and get people hurt or killed. It is much harder to decide if a new hire is using versus abusing prescription drugs (one should be ready to explain why she is testing positive, if that happens).

Drug screen: If your prescription is for a narcotic pain medicine, anxiolytic/benzodiazepine (like valium), or stimulant such as ritalin, then a urine test will show positive for a these drugs.
