A member asked:

Can polycystic ovary syndrome be diagnosed through a pelvic exam? is spotting between periods normal?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: PCOS is usually diagnosed by having two of the following 3 findings: irregular & infrequent periods, polycystic ovaries seen on ultrasound, and symptoms of high testosterone such as facial hair or severe acne. It is not diagnosed on pelvic exam. Spitting between periods is usually not normal. I would see a gynecologist if having those symptoms.
