Low salt: Diet has an impact on hypertension, but mainly through its effect on body weight and sodium. Weight loss through calorie restriction in an overweight person will often lower BP by more than 10 mmhg. Salt restriction can do the same if rigorous. The other aspect of diet is alcohol - reducing to under 5 drinks a week can lower BP if intake was high.

Foods that lower BP: No single foods but a total plan that lowers BP. Lo Salt is key. Best research done with DASH Diet. Recommend U get book, read it and then do Chap 9 for 14 days exactly. This will lower your BP by 11/7 (on the average) and is as powerful as most single Bp meds. Using the low sodium version will do even better.
