A long answer: Some are salt retainers and some aren't. But we know that when people eat right and exercise that blood pressure lowers. Please see the DASH (dietary approaches to stop hypertension) diet online. Also a plant based, whole food diet can work as well.

To control BP: Achieve ideal wt, dont smoke, minimize salt, eliminate saturated fats, be modest with meats, eat fruit, veggies, and whole grains, minimize caffeine, exercise daily, select foods rich in magnesium and potassium, avoid sugars, breads, pasta. Salt and saturated fats raise bp.
