Yes: A person with herpes 1 can give herpes 1 to another person's mouth or genitals, if that other person does not yet have herpes 1. Herpes 1 cannot turn into 2, nor vice versa. A person is not immune to herpes 1 unless he has caught herpes 1, and likewise, he is not immune to herpes 2 unless he has caught herpes 2. That means having herpes 1 does not protect you against herpes 2, and vice versa.
