After bathing?: The most effective way to apply skin lotion is within 3 minutes after bathing. If the skin is really very dry, trying keeping her in a bath for 15-20 minutes daily. Sponge dry, then apply a moisturizer all over. Consider another application in 12 hrs with or without bathing. Usually the thicker the moisturizer, the better it works.

Add moist heat: Sometimes placing a moist warm washcloth over the area after applying an emulsifying agent will help the ointment absorb better. Try applying it for 10-15 mins every time you apply the ointment. Also consider applying the ointment after a bath/shower .
