Sling for comfort: A sling is worn for comfort generally for 3-4 weeks max after a standard clavicle fracture. Once a patient is comfortable carrying their own own with surrounding musculature and fracture ends become "sticky" (no movement at fx site), the sling can be removed.

You don't need to: The purpose of a sling with a broken clavicle is to make you more comfortable by decreasing arm movement. It doesn't otherwise affect the healing process. All bones generally take 6 weeks to heal when broken. If you can tolerate the pain you are actually better off without the sling which can result in limited range of motion after it heals. If there is major deformity or pain see an orthopedist.
