The basics: When you get a viral illness like the flu, you only get over it because your body has generated antibodies that remove the virus. Those antibodies will protect you from getting the SAME FLU STRAIN again over the next few years. Including from your roommate. It doesn't protect you from other flu strains, so if your roommate got his somewhere else you might get it.
