Blood= tissue damage: Blood in the ear canal suggests either a scratch in the canal wall or a rupture of the ear drum. Unfortunately kids do dig in their ear in response to pressure and their tiny fingers/nails can scratch the canal. The examination of the ear using an otoscope with its canal sleeve can scratch the canal as can removing wax to visualize the ear drum. Only an exam can identify the source of the blood.
