If you: are referring to the thigh region, for a DVT study, the vein that needs to be imaged is the femoral vein, which runs towards the inside of the thigh. There is no need to image the outside of the leg, because there are no anatomic "deep" veins there. The deep veins are the important veins to check for clots, because those are the ones that can lead to PE.
