Why would there be such a stigma against schizophrenia?

?: Good question. I would say there is a stigma toward mental illness in general and not just schizophrenia. Lack of education, i feel plays a role. When a mentally ill patient commits a violent act, it seems as if society deems all patients to be violent. There needs to be more mental health awareness.

All mental illness: I think the stigma against all mental illness is very high and possibly worsening with some recent events in the news. Also, those with mental illness have very little voice or support in the media to help educate and minimize the stigma. Disability for mental illness claims are often rejected, housing is scarce and expensive, supportive resources are few and funding is limited.
