It happens: Kids get an upper respiratory infection 5-7X/yr until school age & most are viral. Antibiotics may/not be helpful. After the initial infection the lung has left over debris of cells within the airways that must be coughed up and expelled or swallowed during the recovery phase. It is neither unusual or an indication more meds are needed. Plenty of fluids/good nutrition/rest support recovery.
