Black stool: Black stool is seen with bleeding from the upper gi tract(stomach and duodenum), from taking iron supplements or taking peptobismol. Chocolate wouldn't cause it. Your physician can do a simple rectal examination,take a stool specimen and test it for occult blood. If positive, appropriate testing of your upper gi tract would be done.
