First period: The first "period" is not usually one which follows ovulation. Ovarian stimulation with estrogen starts many years prior to effective ovulation, so at some point the lining of the uterus becomes thicker, and irregular bleeding due to partial degeneration of the lining produces the described pattern. Soon there will usually be intervals of 26-34 days between bleeding episodes. If not, see a gyn.
