UTI in young girls: A possible urinary tract infection in an 8 year old is a serious cause for concern as pre-pubertal girls usually have one of three things when that occurs. !.) A anatomical abnormality or kidney problem that is congenital that can retain urine leading to UTI. 2.) Poor hygiene & improper wiping after voiding. 3.) A Vaginal foreign body. A Pediatrician visit, not OTC meds, in a must.

No: In someone her age this may or may not be a UTI. It often occurs when they sit in soapy water & don't rinse the genitals with plain water after bathing. It can be wiping the wrong way with retained vaginal feces, toilet tissue, or other foreign material. It can be a reaction to scented toilet paper, bath soaps (Irish Spring), bubble bath. These can also lead to a UTI. A visit is needed.
