I went to my gp yesterday about pain in my right leg. i thought it might be a pinched nerve. he said it looks like a collapsed cushion at the l5 vertebra. he gave pain meds but still in pain.

So your GP gave you: the correct diagnosis now you have to wait for the problem to resolve. Look up recommendations for ruptured lumbar disc on the internet and follow them. Bed rest is often effective.
