A member asked:

I have shingles and kissed my gf and she gave me oral sex. she hasnt had chickenpox yet so can i infect her with the virus(blisters on lowerback/abs)?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Possibly: The debris from the shingles sores can give chickenpox to a susceptible person. The shingles patient is not secreting the germ in their saliva, as they would during chickenpox. So if the sores are covered or the material is kept away from susceptible people, transfer will not occur. This is quite different from chickenpox, where airborne droplets easily spread the disease before the kid breaks out.
