Currently have a sore throat, and tried to check if i had strep. for the first time i saw me epiglotti- yes, im completely sure thats what i saw, not the uvula. i have never seen my epiglottis before, im not sure if i can normally. concerning?

There is: no way to visualize the epiglottis without an angled mirror in the back of the throat or other device. If you think you might have strep throat, don't try to self diagnosis, it is not very reliable...see a health care professional for an evaluation.

Sounds ok: Some people can see their epiglottis. As long as a person does not have an epiglottis infection or inflammation, it's ok to be able to see the epiglottis. It's a pink little flap that points upward from behind the base of the tongue. "Epiglottitis" is inflammation or infection of the epiglottis, and causes severe breathing or severe swallowing difficulties... and of course, is a 911 emergency.
