Ask Dr. to recheck: Some people can see their epiglottis. As long as a person does not have an epiglottis infection or inflammation, it's ok to be able to see the epiglottis. It's a pink little flap that points upward from behind the base of the tongue. "Epiglottitis" is inflammation or infection of the epiglottis, and causes severe breathing or severe swallowing difficulties... and of course, is a 911 emergency.
