A member asked:

I need advice from a gynae. i have a mirenna inserted 5 years ago in march. when does this stop working. must it be done in march or can it wait.

A 9 month wait?: Mirena does have a finite life as the hormones are metabolized and are no longer effective. If you go past the expiration date, then pregnancy is a very real possibility as ovulation can resume at any time past that point. A nine month wait for a new baby would not be a risk worth taking of going past the expiration date of Mirena.
