A member asked:

I have excessive phlegm caused by lpr. this causes me to swallow often, which results in air getting trapped in my gi. its very hard to belch and it causes pressure and pain in my throat and chest. why is belching so difficult for me?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

LPR: Unfortunately laryngopharyngoreflux is not often successfully treated, but a trial of the usual antireflux medications is worthwhile. Forcing yourself to belch only leads to more air swallowing. Instead try drinking hot(not too hot) water to break down the gas bubbles so that they pass down the intestinal tract.
