A member asked:

Is onchomycosis contagious? how to prevent the spread of infection within the house if one is infected?

Not: Not contagious. Ventilate, keep nails short. Do not wear sox in bed. Genetic factors. Skin chemistry and immune factors determine susceptability. The T. Rubrum dermatophyte is ubiquitous. We are all exposed to it. Oral terbinafine, if used correctly, is best chance for cure. Also treat fungus on toes and feet.

Onychomycosis: I believe that avoiding athletes feet infections is the best way to prevent the development of onychomycosis. A podiatrist is best qualified to evaluate, advise and treat you for this infection, however.
