Lack of sleep: Sleep can be interrupted due to stress, illness, noise, nasal breathing problems, viruses, side effects of medications to name a few. Sleep labs have you come in and monitor your vitals to see if you are not breathing through out the night. If you have sleep apnea , oxygen is prescribed, or surgery in the nasal passages if that is needed. Many reasons for insomnia.

Difficulty falling: Asleep is often associated w/anxiety while waking up early and not returning to sleep is associated w/depression. Periodic waking is associated w/overall light sleep. Please see you doc who may order a sleep study. A psychologist can help w/stress management. Peace and good health.
