Time to see doctor: Difficulty swallowing plus face swelling can mean something bad is happening or about to happen. It could be a big abscess. One can't tell without an exam. If it is a case of mono, steroids such as prednisone are sometimes used in the treatment of mono, such as to shrink down extremely enlarged tonsils. If an allergic reaction is the cause, that could be deadly (need to call 911 for an ambulance).
