Abscess: Have you been sick recently? What you are describing sounds a lot like a peritonsilar abscess. These are rare but can happen after an untreated strep throat. Please see your doctor quickly or go to the emergency room for evaluation. These can be life threatening infections.

Need an exam: Your symptoms suggest an infectious process, but there are a number of conditions that could be possible. Rather than speculate as to the possible causes it would be much more important to see a physician as soon as possible for and examination and diagnosis.
