Ivc filter.: Having an IVC filter in place always carries associated risks including clotting, migration and stenosis (narrowing). Fortunately these risks are low but they can happen. Trying to remove a filter that has been in for a long time also carries significant risks of bleeding and injury to the IVC. The risks of removal would need to be evaluated versus the risks of leaving it in place.
