A 45-year-old female asked:

I think the dr. removed too much of my big toenail-1/3 overall-i'm afraid my toe will remain disfigured looking with such a small nail, will it regrow?

Depends: If phenol was used to destroy the nail generating tissue you may indeed end up with smaller nail. The only way to know for sure is to be patient and wait until it grows out.

Root surgery??: If the doctor just removed the nail, the entire nail should regrow. If he or she also killed the root surgically or chemically(called a matrixectomy) then most likely it will not regrow.
