The screeners: Lymph nodes in the groin are a screening system for tissue fluids (not blood) from the leg or nearby tissue. They usually increase in size when working to clear serum of bug bites or other debris. If they swell enough to be painful they may be infected enough not to self heal. If so the doc needs to see you and decide what to do.
