A member asked:

I get swelling in the middle of my calves when wearing hiking boots. i had a compartmental release in my calves in 2015 after 10 years. is it related?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Quite possible: After a compartment release, the thick tissue surrounding your muscles in your calves (the fascia) is cut wide open to decrease the pressure on the muscles. It does not repair itself. So when the muscles swell, such as with exercise or with pressure from boot tops, it is much more apparent than if the fascia is intact.
