Pain: Do not discontinue elastics. Continue to wear them, but take OTC Ibuprofen for a day or two until soreness eases off. Your mouth is sore because of change in mechanics, but you will get over it. Keep teeth and gums spotlessly clean (including cleaning between teeth w floss or WaterPik, to reduce the discomfort from swollen gums. If soreness does not ease off in a few days, call your Orthodontist.
