Controversial: If the X-ray shows some comminution(‘shattered’)and there is potential for skin compromise then ORIF is recommended. Shoulder width can be restored. Both closed and open treatment leads to reliable healing.ORIF( open reduction internal fixation)has downsides of a prominent scar and a slight risk of infection. Good Luck!
