Irregular heart: It's important to document what your heart rate and rhythm are when you experience palpitations. If this is a recurrent symptom your physician can have you wear a holter heart monitor as an outpatient. You will write down the time you're having palpitations and the monitor tracing will show what your heart rate and rhythm at that exact time were. A heart examination and EKG should be done also.
