A member asked:

6 week old in home, plus 6, 8, 10 year olds. if someone gets a confirmed case of the flu, should everyone except baby be given tamiflu prophylaxis to keep the baby safe?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Family vaccinations: Because everyone ages 6 months and above has been vaccinated (with only rare exceptions), we don't have to worry too much if one or two family members catch the flu, because his or her flu illness should be milder than without the vaccine (unless he or she has really bad luck). Tamiflu might not be needed in such a family. Children have lots of germs and so don't need to interact with new babies.
