Hypothermia: i read that it can cause tissue/ organ damage, but i thought it prevented this by slowing down cell metabolism and o2 use? which is it?

The variables: Hypothermia is not a specific term. Someone who was experiencing it could have frost bite, actual tissue damage to their toes/fingers etc. while their core was warm enough to recover. Docs ice down the heart to stop it for corrective surgery while limiting the chill duration to prevent damage. The true answer is not a simplistic yes or no but a realization that there are degrees.
