A member asked:

I've heard metabolism slows as we age - by how much? best ways to prevent/combat the slowdown & avoid dreaded middle-age spread?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Metabolism Varies: I don't believe metabolism slows due to age but more likely slows because our activities and exercise slows with age. As long as thyroid function remains normal then metabolism depends more on our needs as determined by physical activity. Our body will tend to provide the metabolism to meet our body needs on average.
