Irritant or contact: This can be from an irritant reaction (from soap, chemical, solvent) or an allergic contact reaction. Topical cortisone cream usually helps but without eradicating the cause, the problem will come back. Too frequent hand-washing can lead to irritation as well. See dermatologist if problem persists .
