Not common at all: I'm not sure if there is such a thing although sometimes meningitis caused by a fungus, TB, AVI, or EBV, in patients with AIDS can be chronic. The only way to diagnose meningitis is with a lumbar puncture (spinal tap). If you think you have meningitis but haven't had an LP then you're mistaken. If you had one then your provider should have identified the culprit and would be treating you.
