Pinched nerve: Pain at the shoulder can be from many reasons, but also it can come from a pinched nerve in the neck area. I would have it checked out by an orthopedic shoulder specialist or cervical specialist.

Cervical spine: Most often pain that goes between the neck and the shoulder is from your cervical spine, and the C5 nerve root. Consider a course of physical therapy for flexibility and stretching exercises and a short course of anti-inflammatories. Rotator cuff and shoulder pathologies usually cause pain in the upper arm not the trapezius area.
