Treat underlying: Most of insomnia I see is due to anxiety, depression and/ or poor sleep hygiene. Need to treat the underlying problem not the symptom (ie. not sleeping pills). Wake up same time, with bright lights, exercise regularly, avoid light several hours before bed (no computers or phones. Antidepressants, antianxiety meds with therapy for underlying problems.

Agree with Dr Liebowitz, sleeping pills are NOT the answer. Develop a good sleep hygiene program and be consistent. Try exercise and meditation. Good luck
