Typical: Osa results in insomnia due to disruptions in sleep cycle brought on by nocturnal hypoxia. Low oxygen levels bring on a surge in Adrenalin (catecholamines) fromsympathetic nerve activation. This can increase bp, trigger arrhythmias, and alter metabolism (increasing Insulin resistance and aggravating endothelial dysfunction). Focus should be on weight loss, appropriate CPAP or bipap.

Suggestions: Perhaps use an alerting medicine during the day such as ritalin, (methylphenidate) provigil, or nuvigil, as these might keep you alert, and by the end of day, exhausted enough to sleep better. Another approach to check your CPAP mask and device, but also, perhaps a dental splint might be used instead if appropriate for your particular apnea condition.
