Inflammation: Asthma is a chronic disease that is the result of inflammation in the airways of the lungs. It can be worsened by a number of triggers, and the disease is managed with medications that control the inflammation and open the airways. Some people will require multiple medications to control their asthma, while others will need only one. It's severity can also vary throughout one's life.
