Definitely: Small children, especially girls, can certainly get urinary infections. Infants with fevers are often tested if no other clear source is found, and a toddler may be able to describe pain with urination. That said, not all pain with urination is infection, and toddlers sometimes have irritation that is not infectious- your pediatrician can help sort this out and treat if needed.

Yes.: Urinary tract infections (utis) are fairly common in childhood. Some signs/symptoms of utis in young children include fever, abdominal pain, irritability, nausea/vomiting, frequent urination, and pain during urination. If you suspect your child has a uti, see your pediatrician.

Absolutely: Utis are not uncommon in toddler girls. There is somewhat of a peak incidence of utis in little girls just at the time they become toilet trained. Possibly because they may try to either retain urine after they find it is one thing in the world over which they have absolute control. Conversely, they may try force urine out withoiut relaxing their sphincter muscle. If febrile needs a cystogram xray.
