Extreme Pain: See your dentist asap to determine cause and treat the problem. Take some OTC pain medication meanwhile. Even if the pain subsides it's important to get treatment asap as infections can spread quickly and result in serious complications.

Caused by?: It's best to treat cause, not just symptoms. To that end your Dentist will have to see you for examination/imaging to determine cause of pain. First, call for examination. Second, take OTC analgesic exactly as per package directions until your appointment. Even if pain temporarily subsides you must by seen by Dentist as cause may be infection, which can be quite dangerous.
